After a bit of research, I've found a bunch of DAC/amp combos that work with the PS5 at around 150€: the SoundBlasterX G6, the ifi Zen DAC V2 and the Schiit Hel 2 (200€, actually). Curious to see if it’s worth getting the k712 pro now cause of your review. The k712 comparatively lacks detail, imaging and slam. I scratched the DT990, since I’m fairly treble sensitive. These should be comparable in that regard. The Ember with the 12AX7 is a heavenly match with these cans. I read a lot about how the k712 are demanding headphones, not easy to drive and people recommending getting rather the BTR5 because it has more juice. I generated 3 sets of EQ from autoeq for K712. I also bought the K712 Pro only for gaming purpose, but since my HD800s are all boxed up, ready for selling on eBay, I thought "hey, maybe I would actually take my K712 Pro through some more Hifi listening". Yesterday i received my AKG K712 Pro together with a FiiO E10K DAC + AMP all in one, and i'm somewhat happy with them so far. The sundara is a bit bright like the he4xx. So after researching a bunch of articles for a new pair of headphones I can use for gaming, I came across the AKG's, one of the biggest proponents of my buying the phones was because they are known to be very comfortable. Been using k702 for a year, agree with +3dB +6dB on lower end in your EQ. They are not bassy by any stretch of the imagination, but there is more bass than there is on the AKGs. Whereas the K712 Pro got a C+ in tone and a B in technical grade. If there would be 1 headphone to be crowned as king in competitive gaming today, it would probably be the Sennheiser HD 660 S. The thing that made me want the k712 pro's was the low impendance, because I don't have an amp and that would push up the price with the DT 990 The lower they are, the more clamp there is, the less headband pressure there will be. You want: Warmth, detailed, good bass, (a little punchy or boomy but not too much) good soundstage and imaging.
